Ping pong or the search for an intercontinental language. Performative reading and book launch of LINGUA FRANCA.

11/12 / 6:00 pm

Celebrate with us the launch of LINGUA FRANCA, a new and exceptional publication of the Bratislava City Gallery, dedicated to the search for a universal intercontinental language of contemporary art. At the event you will have the opportunity to get to know it better in a unique form of an actor's performative reading.
Brazilian writer Tiago de Abreu Pinto (1984, Salvador), curator of the exhibition exhibition of the same name, presented at the Bratislava City Gallery at the turn of 2023 and 2024 and author of the publication LINGUA FRANCA, uses writing to seek and find the universal language of contemporary art – within the work of Brazilian and Slovak conceptual artists.
The result of the curator's encounters with the artists’ works is an essay that explores differences and convergences, as well as common themes, similar starting points, and diverse treatments. It poses the question whether "national differences" can be found in the works of artists from different countries and continents, asking whether the language of conceptual art is not instead about human and artistic experience, and the need to create and communicate that which merits thoughts and words. According to the author, this results in an internationally comprehensible statement – a universal language, albeit one used at different times and in various places. With his reflections, he opens a conversation and encourages new interpretations, penetrations, and questions …
Bratislava City Gallery (GMB) new publication was created with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Bratislava following the LINGUA FRANCA exhibition (7 December 2023 – 24 March 2024).
