Július Schubert Last Chairman of the Bratislava Art Society
Exhibition in Mirbach palace
Quick navigation
The exhibition presents an overview of the work of Bratislava native Július Schubert (*1888 Bratislava–†1947 Bratislava), last chairman of the Bratislava Art Society (BAS), set within the context of the Bratislava art scene. In addition to the artist's work and the results of recent research, the curatorial concept portrays a complex image of artistic life within the urban environment.
Despite the important role that Július Schubert played in the Bratislava Art Society between 1920 and 1945, his painterly work has thus far been treated only partially and in fragments. He had great merits in the field of organisational and exhibition activities. The artistic work of Julius Schubert is represented moderately well in the Bratislava City Gallery's collections, and the curatorial selection is supplemented by works from the artist's family estate and other public collections. Schubert's works are set in the context of artistic events within BAS, and will be presented together with paintings, sculptures, and prints by other representatives of the society. The viewer will thereby gain a comprehensive picture of the society's activities, with emphasis on the work of Július Schubert.

We are very pleased that the invitation to become the "face" of the exhibition was accepted by the great-niece of Julius Schubert - Mrs. Kamila Magálová, who will also open the exhibition with her speech.
