Towards Transregional Art Histories
19/02 / 12:30 am
The symposium accompanying the exhibition Haptic Echo. Nature, Body, Politics in Art of Former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, Bratislava City Gallery.
The symposium consists of lectures and discussions that focus on regional art history and transregional research in the field of art of the second half of the 20th century. Organised in conjunction with Haptic Echo exhibition the focus of which are environmental motifs in the art of the 1960s to 1990s the symposium confronts the parallel, though often intertwined, narratives of art from two modern European federations - Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. The symposium will address the issues of mutual contacts, friendly exchanges, leading to aesthetics of resistance and the emergence of collective artistic platforms. The ambition of the symposium is to discuss the legacy of radical artistic practices, to point out little-known contexts in the politics of multinational cultural spaces and the phenomenon of minority cultures. The symposium is open to students as well as general public and the language of discussion will be English.
